A study reported by the California Health Care Foundation was released on "Promoting Health/Protecting Privacy: A Primer. Report on the Privacy Policies and Practices of Health Web Sites. These are full reports in pdf file. This is a list of documents on Health and Long-Term Care for those who need information for their retirement planning. Citizens' Council on Health Care (CCHC) is another web-site that seeks to provide educational materials for the public interested in health care reform and delivery issues, and medical confidentiality. It is a citizens' resource on designing the future of health care.

Healthy People - the Prevention Agenda for the Nation. It is a statement of national opportunities - a tool that identifies the most significant preventable threats to health and focuses public and private sector efforts to address those threats. You may be using the Internet to get Health Information On-Line. How reliable is this information? That's not an easy question to answer. This editorial from The Journal of the American Medical Association's Assessing, Controlling, and Assuring the Quality of Medical Information on the Internet provides the discussion and guidance on such choices. DISCERN is an instrument, or tool, which has been designed to give users of consumer health information a valid and reliable way to judge the quality of written information about treatment choices. The AMA has also put up Guidelines for Medical and Health Information Sites on the Internet as principles governing its web-sites.

Evidence-based practice has become the norm in the provision of health care today. In addition to only practitioners of health been given access to such evidence-based clinical databases, patients and the public can now have access to such information. At the National Electronic Library for Health, clinical evidence is freely available. It provides a regularly updated guide to evidence about the effectiveness of care.

Your Guide to Choosing Quality Health Care was developed to help you make health care decisions using information about the quality of health care services you and your family receive. The Guide is based on research about the information people want and need when choosing health plans, doctors, treatments, hospitals, and long-term care. It describes quality measures including consumer ratings, clinical performance measures, and accreditation—what they are, where to find them, and how to use them. As the "managed care" approach to the provision of health care services are becoming more common, this site provides an excellent, consumer-oriented overview of managed care from the PBS program "Your Money & Your Life"; the overview describes how managed care works. The site also has sidebars on health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), quality ratings, and facts about managed care. In addition, a managed care glossary as well as real-life stories and viewpoints from medical professionals and health care advocates are provided.
